BLENDED LEARNING
![]() |
Blended Learning is a learning method that combines face-to-face learning methods with online learning. Things that need to be considered by the participants are the time commitment to study a topic, he ability to adapt to different learning methods than usual. This learning method may be a good solution in the teaching and learning activity, where face-to-face learning method is less because of the constraints of time or place. In this way, participants can determine their own pace of learning, not bound by time but still have to be committed.

Here are some advantages of blended learning:

- Learning whenever I want
- Learning at the speed I want
- Getting a learning experience with different method
- There is a time to deepen a topic, before discussing with the instructor or teacher
- Must have a commitment of time, because the time was not face-to-face no separate time to learn
- and the most important is, students need to be provided a good computer and internet access.

What is e-learning?????
![]() |
E-learning is learning activity that uses computer or electronic devices aid
services. E-learning facilitated through internet, CD-ROM or DVD, pictures,
streaming video or audio and other media. It is aim to allow people to learn
personal accomplishment without physically attending a conventional or traditional
classes because this activity can be done everywhere and anytime. This electronic
learning strategy can be applied in every level from elementary grade through
graduate degree. The requirements for e-learning are mostly computer with
CD/DVD-ROM Drive and the internet access, or maybe you can use mobile phone or tablet
computer which is simpler.
There are many online applications the teachers could use in their
e-learning activity. The following examples are given below.
E-learning can give us advantages. It can be done
in a short time, because the time is flexible. It can be done everywhere with
our mobile devices, such as laptop, mobile-phone, tablets. It can be done wherever you have a device capable of doing so, as
you do not have to attend a face-to-face class. However, it is also give
disadvantages, for example Lack of Control,
because Learners with low motivation tend to fall behind when using eLearning
as there are no set times to be doing it and they are responsible for the
organization themselves and the most common thing is the computer competency, we
need to use some applications, and if we want to install an application we need
a lot of hard-disk space and not every student’s computer or laptop has the
same operating system and also the internet connection sometimes become really
bad which is make us take a long time to do it.
One thing that we have to know, we should not replace conventional
learning activities in class with E-learning completely because something must
have a good side and a bad side. But we could use E-learning to improve our
knowledge and make the students think more and do more for something new.

SUMMARY of CALL (ICT)

Hello everyone,
Today we are discussing Computer-Assisted
Language Learning (CALL). What is CALL???
A.
DEFINITION
There are some definitions of CALL:
-
Computer-Assisted Language Learning can
be described as the search for study of applications of the computer in
language and learning.
-
Beatty (2003) defines CALL as ‘any
process in which a learner uses a computer, and as a result, improves his/her
language.
As an
approach to language teaching and learning in which the computer is used as an
aid to the presentation, reinforcement and assessment of material to be
learned, usually including a substantial interactive element.
B.
Three types of CALL Programs:
1.
CALL-specific software:
CD-ROMs, web-based interactive language learning exercises.
2.
Generic software:
word-processors (Word), presentation software
(PowerPoint), and spreadsheet (Excel).
3.
Computer-mediated communication
(CMC) programs: synchronous-online chat; asynchronous – email, discussion
forum, message board.
C.
Types of CALL Activities:
·
Multiple-choice &
true/false quizzes
·
Gap-filling exercise
·
Crossword puzzles
·
Games
·
Concordancing
·
Web-quest/searching
·
Web publishing
·
Online communication
(synchronous and synchronous)
ROLES of the
Computer in Language Learning and Teaching:
-
Computer as a tutor for
language drills and skill practice
-
Computer as a tool for writing,
presentation and researching
-
Computer as a medium of global
communication
There are also
some kinds of CALL, they are:
a.
Traditional CALL
It presented a stimulus to
which the learner had to provide a response. In early CALL programs the
stimulus was in the form of text presented on screen, and the only way in which
the learner could respond was by entering an answer at the keyboard.
b.
Explorative CALL
More recent approaches to
CALL have favoured a learner-centered, explorative approach rather than a
teacher-centered, drill-based approach to CALL.
c.
Multimedia CALL
Early personal computers
were incapable of presenting authentic recording of the human voice and easily
recognizable images, but this limitation was overcome by combining a personal
computer and a 12-inch videodisc player, which made it possible to combine
sound, photographic-quality still images and video recording in imaginative
presentations – in essence the earliest manifestation of multimedia CALL.
d.
Web-based CALL
The Web offers enormous
potential in language learning and teaching, but it has some ways to go before
it catches up with the interactivity and speed of access offered by CD-ROMs or
DVD, especially when accessing sound and video files.
e.
CALL authoring programs
They were the originally
developed to enable programmers to simplify the entry of data provided by
language teachers. Modern CALL authoring programs are designed to be used by
language teachers who have no knowledge of computer programming.

ICT
in Education
Today
we are going to discuss about ICT in education. What is ICT?? What is ICT in
Education? ICT can be described as a technology that enables people to process
and share information and communication with others and ICT in education means
teaching and learning with ICT. Education ICT tools can be divided into three,
(1) Input source (PC, students’ response, visualizer, applications software),
(2)Output source (projector, interactive whiteboard, displayer) and (3) Others
( digital camera, digital recorder, other technologies). ICT can improved
students learning achievement and make better teaching method. There are some advantages of using education ICT
tools:
- Through ICT, images can easily be used in teaching and improving the retentive memory of students.
- Through ICT, teachers can easily explain complex instruction and ensure students’ comprehension.
- Through ICT, teachers are able to create interactive classes and make the lessons more enjoyable, which could improve student attendance and concentration.
However,
the rapid development of technology can cause some confusion, especially to the
teachers. There are some disadvantages:
- Setting up the devices can be very troublesome.
- Too expensive to afford.
- Hard for teachers to use with a lack of experience using ICT tools.
ICT
in English
Teaching English using ICT is expected to
improve the students’ comprehension in language skills through the spoken or
written texts as the materials.
Research suggests that incorporating ICT into the
English curriculum can:
- improve writing and reading
skills
- develop speaking and
listening skills
- support collaboration,
creativity, independent learning and reflection
ICT
also enable students to:
- access information and
respond to a widening range of texts
- organise and present
information in a variety of forms
- broaden the range of
audiences for their work
- compose a widening range of
texts for a broad range of purposes
- compose for real audiences.
ICT can support them in their choice of genre for audience and purpose.
- identify key characteristics
and features of text
- develop understanding of
language and critical literacy (Becta,2006,ICT in the Curriculum).

ICT in Language Teaching - summary of MIS,Hypertext,Hypermedia and Multimedia
Hi,
hi :D
This
is my very first post in my blog and I’m gonna talk about Management Information System,
Hypertext, Hypermedia and Multimedia.
So...let’s
get down to the business!
1. Management
Information System
Nowadays, internet is like the most
important need for everyone. We use it to do many things, in every part of our
live. When we study we can get many resources of information and e-books from
internet for free. We can use emails to transfer our files. Getting any
information that we need only by looking on a screen or even now, mobile phone,
which is make it simpler. There are three primary resources involved in
Management Information System (MIS), that is : Technology, Information and People.
Source: http://vincentpage.blogspot.com/
2. Hypertext
When we open a page on a web browser,
there are some words that have color (usually blue) and when we click, it will
bring us to another website page that which have similar context to the
previous page. That is what we call Hypertext. “Hypertext refers to the use of
hyperlinks (or simply “links”) to present text and static graphics”
3. Hypermedia
The next thing more complex than
hypertext is hypermedia. Hypermedia is the combination of hypertext and
multimedia. It is
not only contain information of several texts but also can be pictures, sounds,
videos or even games.
4. Multimedia
According
to http://www.cs.cf.ac.uk/Dave/ISE_Multimedia/node10.html, Multimedia is the field concerned with the computer-controlled integration of
text, graphics, drawings, still and moving images (Video), animation, audio,
and any other media where every type of information can be represented, stored,
transmitted and processed digitally.
